Every automaker is taking steps towards safer roadways but Ford is the only automaker aiming to make driving on the wrong side of the road safer as well. Ford’s Wrong-Way Alert takes aim at drivers who start driving on the wrong side of the road. Such a technology may seem limited in use but it could save lives.
Ford’s Wrong-Way Alert warns drivers that they’re driving against the flow of traffic with a variety of visible and audible notifications. That technology is great for drivers who, against their better judgement, get behind the wheel while impaired.
The system uses a windshield-mounted camera that can identify “Do Not Enter” and “Wrong Way” road signs. That information is paired with the vehicle’s navigation system. Although it isn’t capable of stopping a vehicle from heading the wrong way, a variety of alerts are better than nothing.
Ford is also looking to create more technology that aims to avoid accidents. The new Evasive Steering Assist works with automatic braking to prevent collisions when the braking system alone can’t stop the car. The new system is activated by a simple turn of the wheel at either city or highway speeds.
We here at Olathe Ford are glad to see Ford putting a greater emphasis on driver safety!
