Extreme Testing for the Ford Ranger Makes It Built Ford Tough

People are excited for the 2019 Ford Ranger ahead of this small pickup’s big comeback. Just like the Ford F-150, the Ranger has been put through some harsh, unforgiving environments to ensure it is Built Ford Tough.

“We torture every component – from its high-strength steel frame to its EcoBoost® engine to its cloth and leather-trimmed seats – to ensure Ranger is ready for any season and nearly any terrain,” said Rick Bolt, Ford Ranger chief engineer.

Over the past year or two, Ford has sent Ranger models to its Michigan Proving Grounds, the Arizona desert, and even the Australian Outback to make sure it will be ready for whatever its future owners throw at it.

In the lab, meanwhile, the Ranger suffered through days of a four-post shaker table that tried to squeeze out any squeaks and rattles. From there, robotic drivers took the Ranger on the brutal Silver Creek track to hit bumps too severe for human drivers.

To keep up with all this abuse, the Ford Ranger will come with features like a Terrain Management System™, blind spot monitoring with trailer support, and Trail Control.
